Japan's point-based fast-track visa offering preferential treatment for top-tier professionals.
The Point-Based System
Japan's Highly Skilled Professional (高度専門職) visa uses a point system based on academic background, professional experience, and annual salary. Applicants scoring 70+ points qualify for preferential immigration benefits. Three categories exist: • Advanced Academic Research Activities (高度学術研究活動) • Advanced Specialized/Technical Activities (高度専門・技術活動) • Advanced Business Management Activities (高度経営・管理活動)
Preferential Benefits
• Multiple residence activities permitted simultaneously • 5-year residence period granted • Relaxed requirements for Permanent Residency (3 years, or 1 year with 80+ points) • Spouse can work without a separate work visa • Ability to bring parents under certain conditions • Ability to bring domestic workers under certain conditions • Preferential processing at Immigration Bureau
